Region 23 Tourney Round 3 stacked by the MACCC
Jackson, MISS. -- In the battle for NJCAA Region 23, so far the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges has come out on top. As the tournament enters its third round, 6 of the 8 teams vying for the championship will be from the MACCC, following breakout performances to start the postseason. The men’s quarterfinals begin on Tuesday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m.
Northwest and Pearl River will meet for the first time this season after The Rangers took down the Jones Bobcats in a nailbiter, 72-70. The defending NJCAA Champion Pearl River Wildcats, who were named division and conference co-champions, took down conference rival Coahoma 58-46 to open the postseason.
MACCC North Champion Northeast will take on one of two Louisiana Community Colleges Athletic Conference (LCCAC) schools when they meet the Delgado Dolphins. The Dolphins emerged triumphant against Meridian in last week’s second round matchup in a heartbreaker, 69-68. The Northeast Tigers survived a scare from the Baton Rouge Community College, 69-68 to advance to the quarterfinals.
LSU-Eunice automatically advanced to the Region 23 quarterfinals following Itawamba’s withdrawal from the tournament. They will take on the Holmes Bulldogs following the team’s in over Mississippi Gulf Coast, 96-89.
The Southeast Bears will take on the Hinds Bulldogs after they defeated the East Mississippi Lions, 97-85. Hinds grabbed a win over East Central, 69-68 to advance.
Higher seeds will host for the quarterfinals, with the semifinals and finals held at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss.
NJCAA’s Region 23 consists of the member schools of the 15 MACCC and the Louisiana Community Colleges Athletic Conference’s 5 members.
